Roads
Our Goal
"To provide and maintain a safe and effective Roads Network within
the County to serve the commercial and social needs of its users"
A satisfactory roads network is essential to the efficient operation
of a successful economy. Given the dependence of Ireland on international
trade and the competitive nature of business today, it is essential that transportation
and distribution costs
are contained. Roads are an essential communication link to support
community development, to facilitate movement in rural areas and to foster
social
inclusion.
Strategies
- To effectively implement the current 5 year plan for the surface restoration
and reconstruction of non-national roads.
- To progress the implementation of community assisted and local improvement
schemes in accordance with the priority list and in consultation
with elected representatives and local groups.
- To continue to ensure that in planning the improvement of national routes,
the National Roads Authority and the Department of Environment
and Local Government are fully informed of the needs and priorities
for the County.
- To review procedures for consultation and co-ordination of activities between
the various sections in the organisation and other agencies
operating in the County.
- To ensure that the quality of road maintenance
is improved in line with technical and operational advances.
- In consultation with elected members, to prepare and implement traffic
management plans for the major towns in the County.
- To promote and seek to improve road safety in the County.
